Gymnasts Defeat Boise State, 195.525-192.750

Feb. 9, 2001

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State gymnasts won every individual event title en route to a 195.525-192.750 victory over Boise State at Gill Coliseum on Friday night.

The 19th-ranked Beavers got individual victories from Annie Campbell, Lara Degenhardt, Stephanie Bychowksi and Katrina Severin. Campbell turned in a season-high and first-place 39.250 all-around score, and her 9.85 score on beam was good for first as well. The Beavers got 9.90 scores on vault and bars from Severin and Bychowski, respectively, giving the pair of seniors victories on those events for the fourth meet in a row. Degenhardt added a season-high 9.95 on her floor routine to round out the individual event titles for the Beavers.

The Beavers had to count a fall on beam, but coach Tanya Chaplin was pleased with how the team responded after last week's loss at Arizona.

'I'm proud that they came together. Overall they looked sharper and we started to see the confidence in them,' she said. 'We've had opportunities, and we want to capitalize on those.'

OSU started the night off on vault, where the Beavers got back to having six competitors. Last week, injuries cut the vault lineup down to five gymnasts, but Lindsay Nelson was back in action this week after suffering a sprained ankle three weeks ago. In addition to Severin's victory, the Beavers got a second-place vault from Degenhardt (9.85), while Campbell scored a season-high 9.70. Nelson added a season-high 9.625.

The Beavers then moved to bars and scored a 49.250, their second-best score of the season on that event. Campbell and Nelson scored career-high 9.825 marks, while Degenhardt also added a 9.825. Elizabeth Jillson took second with a 9.875, finishing only behind Bychowski's 9.90. Soni Meduna also tied her career-high with a 9.725, but the Beavers didn't need to count her score.

Campbell led the way on beam with her 9.85, good for her second consecutive beam title and third of the year. Three Beavers tied for third place, with Bychowski, Severin and Elaine Yoder each scoring a 9.80. But Marissa Bruch and Megan Suratt both fell, forcing the Beavers to count Bruch's 9.25.

OSU finished out the evening with a season-high 49.125 on floor, led by Degenhardt's first victory of the season. Her 9.95 also marked OSU's highest floor score by any gymnast this year. Campbell placed second with a 9.875, while Meduna and Severin tied for fourth place with 9.80 marks.

BSU's Tiffany Weston turned in solid marks on floor (9.85) and beam (9.825) to place third and second, respectively, while Annie Kaus was third on bars (9.85). Breanne Holmes was the Broncos top all-arounder with a score of 38.550. She was third on vault (9.80) and tied for fourth on floor (9.80).
