Brandt Leads Bruins to 10-2 Win Over UNLV

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Senior pitcher Jon Brandt allowed two runs and struck out seven batters through eight innings as the UCLA Bruins defeated UNLV 10-2 in the second game of the three game series. Senior Eric Reece went 3-5 with five RBI. All of Reece's hits were extra base hits as he finished the game with a double, a triple and a home run. With their fifth straight win, the Bruins improve to 5-2, while UNLV drops its third straight game to fall to 2-3.
The Bruins got on the board first in the bottom of the third when Brian Baron hit a solo home run over the right field wall. After Randall Shelley was hit by a pitch, Reece hit his second home run of the season over the center field wall to give UCLA a 3-0 lead.
Adam Berry scored another run in the seventh to help the Bruins take a 4-0 lead. The Bruins picked up a pair of runs in the eighth. Ben Francisco singled up the middle to start the inning and Shelley walked to put two runners on base. Reece tripled to right field to score the two runners.
The Bruins picked up four insurance runs in the eighth. Matt Pearl walked and scored on a Francisco single. Francisco scored on a Baron double, and Baron scored on a Reece double. Reece advanced to third after a Josh Arhart single and scored on a Berry double down the right field line.
Brandt was solid through eight innings, allowing only four hits and two runs. He struck out seven batters to pick up his second win of the season. Casey Janssen entered the game in the ninth and allowed one hit.
