No. 15 Stanford Softball Sweeps Pacific, 2-0 and 4-0

The 15th-ranked Stanford softball team swept a doubleheader with the Pacific Tigers today at the Stanford Softball Complex. Game scores were 2-0 and 4-0. The Cardinal improve to 5-0 on the year, while the Tigers fall to 2-2.
Game one was a pitchers dual between Stanford's Dana Sorensen and Pacific's Cindy Ball. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Rightfielder Ramona Shelburne led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Shortstop Robin Walker would single up the middle, scoring Shelburne. Later in the inning, centerfielder Jessica Mendoza singled to right, scoring Walker for an insurance run.
Sophomore Dana Sorensen pitched a complete game one-hitter for the Cardinal with a season-high 12 strikeouts. Walker went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.
In game two, Stanford jumped out to the early 1-0 lead as Ramona Shelburne scored on an error by the shortstop in the first inning. The Cardinal would score three in the third to seal the win. Shelburne reached base on an error by the third baseman to lead off the inning. After Jessica Mendoza walked, first baseman Sarah Beeson would double to center, scoring Shelburne. Second baseman Kira Ching would single to right, scoring Mendoza while Beeson would score on an error by the rightfielder.
Sophomore Maureen LeCocq would pick up her second win of the season, pitching five strong innings, allowing only one hit. Tori Nyberg closed out the game for Stanford with two scoreless innings. Mendoza went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two walks for the Cardinal. Ching went 1-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Stanford hosts San Jose State (3-4) tomorrow in a doubleheader at noon at the Stanford Softball Complex in continued action.
