Feb. 10, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. - The tenth-ranked Arizona State (3-1, 2-1) women's tennis team swept the Ducks of Oregon (3-4, 0-4) at the Whiteman Tennis Center in front of a large crowd, 7-0.

In doubles play, ASU earned its team point by winning two of the three needed matches with help from combos Mhairi Brown/Celena McCoury and Megan Yeats/Cindy Sureephong. After starting off a bit slow, the Brown/McCoury duo picked up some speed to snatch an 8-3 victory on the No. 1 court. The Yeats/Sureephong tandem improved their doubles record to 4-0 with an 8-4 win on the No. 3 court.

In singles action, sophomore Megan Yeats remained undefeated in dual play and improved her overall record to 12-3 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Oregon's Adeline Arnaud. ASU freshman standout Cindy Sureephong, who improved her dual record to 4-0, defeated Courtney Nagle on the No. 6 court, 6-0, 6-0. Battling the heat of the sun on courts Nos. 1 and 2, ASU's Adria Engel and Karin Palme finally wrapped up their long matches by beating Oregon's Janice Nyland and Monika Gieczys each in three sets.
