Women's Tennis Falls to No. 10 Arizona State, 7-0
TEMPE, Ariz. --The University of Oregon women's tennis team broke its three match winning streak Saturday, losing to tenth-ranked Arizona State, 7-0. The Ducks fall to 3-3 on the season (0-3 Pac-10).
In singles play, junior Janice Nyland took one set from Engel, 5-7, before falling in the next two, 6-2, 6-3. Gieczys and freshman Davina Mendiburu, despite their hard-fought, first-set victories, and like Nyland, could not manage a win.
'I was extremely pleased with our team's effort,' said head coach Jack Griffin. 'It doesn't look very good losing 7-0, but we played three three-hour singles matches. For our second outdoor match of the season, I think we performed extremely well. If we keep this progress up, we're going to start having some wins against higher-ranked opponents.'s
The Ducks will travel to Los Angeles to battle USC on, Friday, February 23 at 1:30 p.m.
