Five Stanford Athletes Attain NCAA Provisional Marks At Iowa State Invitational

AMES, Iowa - The Stanford women's indoor track & field team had a successful trip at the Iowa State Invitational as five Stanford athletes provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships last weekend at Iowa State's Henry Hoak Indoor Track Stadium.
Ashley Couper and Lindsay Hyatt both reached the provisional qualifying mark (2:09.60) in the 800 meters. Couper finished third with at time of 2:08.25 while Hyatt was seventh in 2:09.00. In the 3,000 meters, Elena Villarreal clocked in at 9:32.87, good for fourth place. Jillian Camarena's throw of 51 feet-8 1/4 inches in the shot put reached the provisional mark and also earned her second place in the event. Maureen Onyeagbako was the fifth Cardinal to provisionally qualify with her weight throw of 60-1/2. She also took second place with this mark.
In the long jump, Julie Tinker and Lillian Bush both turned in their best marks of the year. Tinker finished in eighth place with a jump of 19-9 3/4 while Bush had a jump of 17-3 1/2.The 4x400 meter relay team also had a season-best time of 3:47.98.
The Cardinal is next in action on Feb. 17 when it travels to Reno, Nevada for the Holiday Inn Classic.
