Women's Basketball Player of the Week (2/12/01)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON guard Megan Franza has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 5-11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Franza, from Leavenworth, Wash., averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead the Huskies to victories over No. 22 Arizona and No. 23 Arizona State, moving UW into a three-way tie for first place in the Pac-10. On the week, Franza went 16-for-29 from the field (.551), was 7-of-15 from three-point range (.467) and connected on 8-of-10 free throws.

Franza scored 26 points on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting from the field, with three assists in the win over Arizona. She played a key role in UW's Pac-10 record 16 treys, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. In the win over Arizona State, Franza scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting (.467) from the field, including a 3-of-7 mark from three-point range.

Franza ranks fourth in Pac-10 scoring (15.5 ppg) and is averaging 16.9 points in Conference games.

In a three-way tie for first place in the Pac-10, Washington (8-3 Pac-10, 15-6 overall) travels to Oregon State and Oregon this weekend.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Franza's career and the 17th all-time selection for the Huskies.
