Last-Second Shot Lifts Washington State Past Oregon, 77-76

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon women's basketball team lost 77-76 Thursday to Washington State, marking its fifth straight loss.
Angelina Wolvert scored a career-high 32 points on 11 of 19 shooting from the field, but a Joanna Smith turnaround jumper with less than one second to play gave the Cougars (10-12, 5-7) the victory.
It also was the Ducks' seventh loss in eight games. Oregon drops to 12-10 and 5-7 in Pac-10 play.
Oregon senior forward Brianne Meharry also had a strong game for the Ducks, dropping in 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Wolvert led all players with 10 rebounds.
Yvonne Volkman led the Cougars with 22 points, hitting 9 of 17 from the floor.
Oregon led 69-60 with 3:11 left in the game, but Washington State went on a 13-4 run over the next two minutes, thanks to four 3-pointers, including two from Katie Nyseth.
The Cougars put Meharry on the line for a one-and-one with 10 seconds left. She missed the first and hit the second to put Oregon up 76-75. A missed 3-pointer by Kelly Berglund was rebounded by Smith, who then scored the game-winning basket.
Oregon next plays host to Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net.
