Men's Golf Squad Opens Season In Hawaii

The Arizona State men's golf team opens its 2001 season Thursday-Saturday (Feb. 15-17) at the 11th annual Taylor Made Intercollegiate Invitational in Hilo, Hawaii.
Teams in the field include Georgia Tech, Texas, BYU, San Diego State, USC, Oklahoma, TCU, Arkansas, UCLA, UCSB, CS-Bakersfield, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Rhode Island, San Francisco, SMU and Hawaii-Hilo.
The event is being held at the Waikoloa Beach Course (6,566, par-70) and the Kings' Course (6,594 yards, par-72). The teams will play the Beach Course on Thursday and Friday and will play the Kings' Course on Saturday (Feb. 17).
Results will be posted on the Vulcan Athletic Website at http:\\vulcans.uhh.hawaii.edu, but note that they will be posted very late due to the time difference from Arizona.
For Arizona State, 2000 U.S. Amateur champion Jeff Quinney and honorable mention All-American Matt Jones lead the team along with senior Jin Park. Chris O'Connor, a senior from Cottonwood, Ariz., and freshman Chez Reavie, a freshman from Mesa, complete the five-man team.
ASU finished second last year. Matt Jones tied for 11th with a 1-over 215 (74-71-70) while Jeff Quinney tied for 13th at 3-over 217 (72-72-73).
ASU won the team title in 1994 and Sun Devils Todd Demsey (1993) and Chris Hanell (1995) have won individual titles at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate.
ASU's next tournament is March 4-6 at the USC Southwestern Invitational.
