Women's Soccer Signs Five to National Letters of Intent

EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon women's soccer team signed five players to national letters of intent, sixth-year coach Bill Steffen announced.
'We expect all of these kids to challenge immediately,' Steffen said. 'They all come from vey competitive club situations. We expect them to step in and compete for starting spots right away.'
The Ducks finished 4-15-1 last season, including 1-7-1 in the Pac-10, one of the toughest conferences in the nation. Last season, Oregon played 10 teams that finished in the NSCAA Top 25, including top-ranked North Carolina, No. 2 UCLA and No. 4 Portland.

* Kelly Baird
Freshman, Central Midfielder (San Pedro, Calif./Fram SC)
'Kelly is a very busy and very active player. She's excellent at creating attacks,' Steffen said.
- Baird competed for one of premier soccer clubs, Fram, in Northern California.
* Sarah Denner
Sophomore, Midfielder/Forward (Eugene, Ore./Churchill HS/Boston U.)
'She brings great experience to the team. We're looking forward to seeing her compete at the Pac-10 level. She's physically strong. She's competitive and combative on the field.'
* Michelle Jensen
Freshman, Goalkeeper (Junction City, Ore./Lake Oswego SC/Junction City HS)
'She's one of the best goalkeepers on the West Coast,' Steffen said. 'Michelle played for the Lake Oswego Soccer Club and is very fiery and competitive. She has great ability and a great attitude.'
- Considered the top goalkeeper in Oregon, Jensen earned All-State Third Team honors as a midfielder at Junction City High.
* Elise Minvielle
Freshman, Defender (San Francisco/Marin County SC)
'She's a very strong, physical and determined player,' Steffen said. 'Elise will bring a great physical presence to our backs.'
* Nicole Renna
Freshman, Midfielder (Austin, Texas/Austin Thunder SC)
'Nicole is an extremely technical, quick and athletic player. We'll look for her to help us with our offensive attack.'
