Cal Baseball Pounds Loyola Marymount, 14-6

LOS ANGELES, CA - Led by the strong pitching of junior Trevor Hutchinson and an 18-hit attack, Cal defeated host Loyola Marymount, 14-6, Friday in Los Angeles. The Bears improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Lions fall to 7-4.
Hutchinson (2-1) was outstanding, pitching 6.0 innings with seven hits, three earned runs, only one walk and a career-high 12 strikeout. He now has 27 strikeouts and only two walks in 21.0 innings this season. The losing pitcher for LMU was starter C.J. Wilson (4.0 innings, nine hits, seven runs, two walks, three strikeouts).
At the plate, Cal was led by junior second baseman Carson White, who went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI. Freshman Chris Grossman (2-for-5, RBI), freshman Conor Jackson (2-for-4, RBI), senior Clint Hoover (2-for-5, two RBI), senior Rob Meyer (2-for-5, RBI) and freshman Noah Jackson (2-for-3, RBI) each had two-hits apiece. The Bears scored four runs in the first inning, a run in the second inning, five runs in the fifth inning, three runs in the seventh inning and a run in the eighth inning off of four Lion pitchers. The game was called because of darkness with one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the eighth.
Cal will next face Loyola Marymount in the second game of the three-game series, Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
