Men's Golf Tied For Seventh After First Round Of Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate

Hilo, Haw. - The No. 10 USC men's golf team shot a first round 320 to tie for seventh place as the University of Hawaii-Hilo's Taylor Made Big Island Invitational held at Waikoloa Kings and Beach Course got underway in Hilo, Hawaii, on Thursday (Feb. 15).
With winds blowing at 20-30 mph and occasional gusts of 40 mph, several teams had difficulty keeping their scores down. Texas leads the pack with a score of 302, followed by TCU (307), Oregon (308), Arizona State (313) Cal State Bakersfield (315) and Brigham Young (317). UCLA is tied with USC in seventh, 18 strokes behind Texas and 32 strokes over par.
Senior Alex Kuyumjian and freshman Hunter Mahan lead the Trojans with a score of 78 (+6) and are in a logjam with five other players in sixth place. Sophomore David Oh is tied for ninth (81), junior Kevin Stadler is tied for 10th (83) and senior Nick Jones is tied for 13th (86).
Matt Dobyns of Texas lead the field with an even par 70. Four players--Troy Matteson of TCU, Matt Jones of ASU, Mike Plate of CSUB and Stephen Polanski of TCU--are tied for second with a score of 74.
The tournament resumes today with the second round teeing off at 9 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time.
