Softball Wins A Pair At UNLV Tournament
Feb. 16, 2001
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Oregon State's offense came alive Friday as the No. 16 ranked Beaver softball team picked up a pair of wins at the UNLV Tournament.
OSU (10-2) knocked off Loyola Marymount, 8-2, in the opening game of the day, followed by a 5-1 victory against Central Michigan in the nightcap.
'We hit the ball extremely well and were able to advance runners when we got them on base which was very positive,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'We did a nice job of keeping offensive pressure on them all day long.'
Against Central Michigan, Oregon State utilized a four-run second inning and eight hits to top the Chippewas. Freshman Monica Hoffman (2-1) picked up her second win of the season allowing eight hits but just one run on the evening. Adams continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with a triple.
'Both of our pitchers did a great job today and defensively we played very solid,' commented Walker. 'Michelle Chariton made some great catches in the outfield for us and Shawna Feldt and Clare Burnum also did a nice job defensively.'
Oregon State continues tournament play with games against Fordham University and Florida International on Saturday. The Beavers conclude the UNLV Tournament with No. 25 Utah on Sunday afternoon.
