Softball Player/Pitcher of the Week (2/19/01)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA utlity player Tairia Mims has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while STANFORD pitcher Maureen LeCocq was named Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 12-18, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mims, a sophomore from Tucson, Ariz., hit .571 for the week, going 12-21 at the plate for the top-ranked Bruins. That total included six home runs, 11 runs scored, 19 RBI, 31 total bases, a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.476 slugging percentage. She also happened to be perfect defensivley on six attempts while playing catcher, third base and right field.
Mims hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats against Wisconsin (Feb. 17) at the UNLV Classic. Of UCLA's six games this week, the only game in which Mims did not homer was Friday's game against Kansas, although she did manage to go 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Mims is currently hitting .449 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI.
LeCocq, a sophomore from Woodland Hills, Calif., had an outstanding weekend for No. 15 Stanford at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in Poway, Calif., going 2-0 with a perfect game.
Lecocq began the weekend with a 2-0 win over No. 11 Michigan. She pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks. LeCocq followed that performance with her first perfect game against No. 22 Long Beach State where she added five strikeouts en route to her first complete game of the season. On the year, Lecocq is 4-0 with an 0.00 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .135 batting average.
It is the first weekly honor for Mims and the 53rd for UCLA all-time. LeCocq also earns her first award of her career. Stanford has now received 12 honors all-time.
