Cougs Sweep Rainbows
Feb. 22, 2001
LEWISTON, Idaho- The No. 54 Cougars took home their second consecutive win of the spring season as they downed the Rainbow Wahines of the University of Hawaii, 7-0, in a dual hosted by the Cougs at the Lewis Clark State College (LCSC) Tennis Center in Lewiston, Idaho Thursday.
The Cougars began the competition by grabbing two of the three doubles victories and taking the doubles point, giving them a 1-0 lead over Hawaii going into the singles competition.
The Cougars then swept all six singles matches.
WSU's freshman Zorana Roganovic took home her first win of the spring season by downing Hawaii's Susie Saunders 7-5, 7-6 at the No. 2 position. Freshman Stacy McKenna, who suffered an ankle injury preventing her to make the Las Vegas trip, picked up a comeback win as she defeated Hawaii's Polina Kravets 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 position.
WSU improves its record to 2-4 overall while Hawaii drops to 3-3.
'I was very pleased with the way the team played today,' head coach Cari Groce said. 'We executed the things we have been working on in practice, as well as the mental game. I think each day will be a little tougher, but our team will continue to gain more confidence and play tougher too.'
The Cougars will host the Utah Utes Friday and the Broncos of Boise State Saturday at 1:30 pm and noon, respectively. Both matches will take place at the LCSC Tennis Center in Lewiston.
