Husky Track Teams Sit Fifth, Seventh After Day One of MPSF Championships

SEATTLE -- After four event finals, the Washington men's track team is in fifth place with 19 points at the MPSF Indoor Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Husky women are currently in seventh place with nine points after four events.
Junior Marcus Kelly (Seattle, Wash.) and junior transfer Tyriff Rudder (San Diego, Calif.) snagged second and third respectively in the triple jump finals, while recording season-best marks. Junior Jason Fayant (Spokane, Wash.) also placed in the finals for the Huskies, taking fourth in the 3,000m run.
On the women's side, two women scored in the finals giving the team nine points after the first day of competition. Sophomore Kate Bradshaw (Issaquah, Wash.) earned the runner-up spot in the 3,000m run, while junior MerryJane Bendico (Lynnwood, Wash.) took eighth in the pole vault with a season-best height of 12-0 3/4.
Continuing on into tomorrow's event finals were: Jamara Smith and Shavon Hawkins (60m dash), Kelsey Sheppard, Chelsie Pentz and Arlene Bledsoe (400m dash), Elizabeth Rogers (800m run) and Kelsey Sheppard (60m Hurdles).
Day two of the MPSF Indoor Championships begins at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz.
