No. 2 Men's Tennis Defeats UC Irvine, 7-0

The second-ranked Stanford University men's tennis team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 7-0 win over visiting UC Irvine (5-2) on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal won five of the six single matches in straight sets. Stanford's No. 1 K.J. Hippensteel handled Oliver Schweizer 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 15-3 overall on the season and 7-1 in dual matches. Stanford's No. 3 Ryan Haviland and No. 6 Scott Lipsky turned in convincing victories, defeating their opponents 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Stanford's Alex Kim and Hippensteel defeated Schweizer and David Matthew 8-4. Ali Ansari and Scotty Scott, the No. 2 doubles team for the Cardinal, cruised to an 8-1 win over Gabriel Garcia and Greg Borkman.

Stanford returns to action on Saturday when it visits #25 California at noon.
