Women of Troy Fall To Oregon State, 78-68

Los Angeles -- Despite an 18-point effort from forward Ebony Hoffman, the USC women's basketball team fell to Oregon State 78-68 in front of 583 Friday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. With the loss USC drops to 9-14 overall and 4-9 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers improve to 13-11, 5-9 in the conference race.
After trailing by as many as 12 points (25-13) at the start of the game, USC fought back to close the gap 39-37 at the break. The Trojans' were fueled by a 10-0 run sparked by a three pointer by Tashara Carter at 7:52 and followed by five points from Hoffman.
USC outscored Oregon State 8-4 in the opening minutes of the second half to take its largest lead of the game 45-42. But a jumper from OSU's Leilani Estevan and seven-straight points from guard Nicole Funn put the Beavers ahead for good (51-45) with 13:31 remaining.
Oregon State outscored the Women of Troy 30-10 in the following 10 minutes. Though Ryane Alexander's three-pointer at 2:31 narrowed the Beavers' lead 72-68, USC was unable to post another field goal and OSU pushed to a 78-68 finish.
Oregon State's Nicole Funn led all scorers with 22 on the night, while USC's Denise Woods led on the boards with nine. Woods also tied a career-high with five blocks. Aisha Hollans was the only other Trojan to finish in double figures with 10 points.
USC will host Oregon on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Sports Arena. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports West.
