Women's Swimming And Diving In Third After Six Events At Pac-10s

Federal Way, WA- After the first day of competition, the Bruins scored 324.40 to place third in the first day of competition at the 2001 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. UCLA trails Arizona (342.30) and USC, who was the top finisher with 360.50 points.

Leading the way for the Bruins in the pool was freshman sensation Sara Platzer who finished third in the 50 Free with a season best time 22.82. Erica Shugart was equally impressive as she finished fifth in the same race with a season best of 23.21.

Freshman Brooke Winkler also garnered a top ten finish, as she posted a time of 2:03.17 in the 200 IM to place eighth.

In the relays, the Bruins finished third in the 200 Free (1:32.45) and fifth in the 400 Medley (3:41.63).

Heidi Prosser led the Bruins divers as she posted 270.35 in the one-meter final to finished fifth. Regan Gosnell scored 264.10 to place eighth.

The meet continues Friday and Saturday. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. each day and finals start at 6 p.m.
