Baseball Hangs On To Beat Kentucky, 3-2

TUCSON, Ariz. - Despite a late rally by Kentucky, the Washington baseball team held on for a 3-2 winover the Wildcats Saturday at Kino Sports Complex. The game was the Huskies' second of three in thisweekend's Illini Desert Classic.
After scoring two runs in the eighth to cut the UW lead from 3-0 to 3-2, the Wildcats loaded the bases withone out in the bottom of the ninth before Husky sophomore Scott Robertson struck out Spencer Graeterand got a ground out from Beau Moore to end the game and record his first career save.
The Huskies (2-0) got tremendous starting pitching from sophomore Sean White (1-0), who allowed onlythree hits and no runs over seven innings. UK starter Joseph Blanton (0-1) threw three innings in the loss.Kentucky reliever Mark Michael shut the Huskies out in his five and two-thirds innings of work.
Washington opened the scoring in the second inning with a single run. With two outs, designated hitterDuggan Moran walked and then scored when catcher Jefferson Thiel belted a triple down the right fieldline. The third inning got started in similar fashion as Andre Marshall walked and scored on a triple fromshortstop Tila Reynolds. Reynolds scored on a Bryan Johnson groundout to give the UW a 3-0 lead.
The game was delayed by a day due to rain on Friday. The Huskies close out the opening weekendSaturday evening vs. Illinois in a game scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. PST.
