Las Vegas - No. 10 Clemson (4-4) used an offensive barrage of 14 hits,and three pitchers combined for a three-hitter as the Tigers defeated OregonState (6-4) 13-2 in the final day of the UNLV Tournament. The game wassuspended after the seventh inning due to the tournament's 10-run rule. TheBeavers split four games at the three-day tournament, captured one of threeagainst the Tigers.
Clemson led only 1-0 entering the fourth inning, but exploded for fiveruns in the inning and 12 runs total over the last four frames. Clemson secondbaseman Ryan Riley provided the fourth inning spark with a three run inside thepark home run. Riley finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI.Teammate Casey Stone also had a four RBI game, three of those on a two-outdouble in the seventh.
Oregon State earned just one hit off starting pitcher Steve Reba, aleadoff single in the fifth by left-fielder Curtis Davis. Pinch-hitter PatStevens had the only overall productive day at the plate for OSU, going 2-for-2and earning the team's only RBI of the game in the Beavers' two-run seventh.Stevens also had a leadoff single in the sixth.
Reba upped his record to 2-0 for Clemson, while starting OSU pitcherMark McLemore suffered the setback, falling to 0-2. McLemore pitched 3 1/3innings, allowing five earned runs, five walks, four hits, and struck out one.
Oregon State returns to Corvallis for its home opener at Goss StadiumTuesday against the University of Portland at 2 p.m. The Beavers also have atwo-game weekend series at home versus the University of San Francisco.
