No. 5 Softball Finds Only Loss On The Weekend To The Rain

Feb. 25, 2001

COLUMBUS, GA - The second round of the gold bracket game against the No. 5 California Golden Bears and the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide could not beat the weather. The game was cancelled due to wet conditions and lightning after an hour delay to see if the conditions improved.

The Bears held the lead, 6-1, scoring five in the first and adding another in the second, but with two outs and a 2-2 count in the bottom of the fifth the lightning and rain began to fall and showed no signs of letting up. The game fell just one strike short of being an official game.

Cal returns to action, Wednesday, Feb. 28, as they host Saint Mary's in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Levine-Fricke Field.
