UCLA Softball Upends Southwest Texas In Doubleheader Action

UCLA handed Southwest Texas bitter defeats, and avoided upsets in both games of a doubleheader: 4-3 and 3-1.
The Bobcats forced extra innings in game one when senior Stephanie Hughessingled with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore Ashley Koop from third.With the scored tied at two, the schools exchanged runs in the ninth beforethe Bruins pushed across the winner in the tenth. Southwest Texas had arunner on third with no outs, but a missed sacrifice ended up with therunner picked off of third base, nullifying the SWT threat.
Southwest Texas Junior Jessica Chase pitched a complete game and limited the top-ranked teamin the country to two earned runs in ten innings. The ten inning affair wasthe longest game played by either team this season.
In game two, Bobcats Senior Sarah Kmiec hit her second home run of the season in thefirst to put the Bobcats up, 1-0. However, that would be all the offenseSouthwest Texas would muster against UCLA pitcher Keira Goerl.
UCLA, now 21-0, homered twice against SWT starter Nicole Neuerburg, soloshots by Amanda Freed and Lupe Brambila.
