Cougars Travel to Seattle

THIS WEEK: The WSU women's tennis team will head to Seattle to take on the BYU Cougars and Pac-10 rival Washington Huskies Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The duals are hosted by the Huskies and will be played in the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
SCOUTING THE BYU COUGARS: The Cougars of BYU are currently 6-4 and ranked No. 44 in the latest ITA tennis polls. BYU's No. 40 Jodi Richardson will be taking on WSU's No. 29 Erica Perkins at the No. 1 position. Richardson and her partner Brooke Ferney currently hold the No. 22 doubles spot in the ITA rankings. They are joined by teammates Dominique Reynolds and Lisa Khoudiarova at the No. 42 spot. This is the first time WSU and BYU will meet in a dual match.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: The Huskies are currently No. 17 in the ITA Tennis poll. The Cougars are 6-21 all-time against the Huskies, including two close 4-5 losses last year. UW has many obstacles for the Cougars to overcome, including the No. 15 duo of Darija Klaic and Kristina Kraszewski, No 24 Kraszewski, No. 51 Claire Carter, No.66 Erin Hoe and No. 75 Klaic. The Huskies are currently 7-4 overall.
ASSISTANT COACH JACKIE BOOTH ON THIS WEEKEND: 'We will have two tough matches this weekend. Both of these schools have great programs. There is always a rivalry between us and UW. Even though many of the women are not from the US, they understand and feel the rivalry, and there is no need to explain it.'
LAST WEEK: The Cougars grabbed three wins during their first home stand of the season. They defeated the University of Hawaii 7-0 Friday, The University of Utah 6-0 Saturday, and Boise State 7-0 Sunday
BOOTH ON LAST WEEKEND: 'We were very pleased with our play last weekend. We expected three wins, and the team really went after them. I think it was a great confidence building weekend for us.'
COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: WSU maintained its No 54 ranking. Junior Erica Perkins is currently No. 29 in the latest Wingspan Bank.com rankings. Perkins is joined by senior Ana Moura and freshman Stacy McKenna who currently occupy the No. 47 spot in the rankings
BOOTH ON SEASON SO FAR: 'It is tough to start out with such tough teams. We feel it has really worked to our advantage, because it motivated the girls to go out tough.
