Women's Golf Takes Second at Bay Area Classic

VALLEJO, Calif. - The California women's golf team fired a 36-hole score of 618 to finish in second place at the 12-team Bay Area Classic Tuesday at Hiddenbrooke Country Club. Washington won the tournament, which Cal and USF co-hosts, with a 26-over-par 602.
The Bears moved up from third place after day one by firing a second round of 308. San Diego State finished third at 626.
Washington's Kelli Kamimura carded 69 in each round to claim individual honors with a 6-under-par 138. San Diego State's Heather Rollo finished 11 shots off the pace in second place with a 149.
Four of Cal's five starters finished among the top 10 individuals, and seven of the Bears eight golfers overall placed among the top 20. Sophomore Vikki Laing led all Cal golfers, placing in a four-way tie for third place at 152. She followed up her opening round 77 with a 75 Tuesday. Also among the top 10 golfers for Cal were senior Cheryl Lala taking seventh with a 154 and junior Anne Walker and sophomore Ria Quiazon tying for 10th at 156. Competing as an individual, Cal sophomore Christine Romer tied for eighth with a 155.
The Bears next compete at UCLA's Pioneer Classic, March 12-13.
