Oregon travels to Houston for Verizon 'Mo'morial

WHAT'S ON TAP: The women's golf team will travel to Houston for the Verizon 'Mo'morial on Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6. The tournament is hosted by the University of Texas A&M at the Pine Forest Country Club (6,115 yards, par 72) in Houston, Texas. The format is 54-hole stroke play, with 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. This is the first year that Oregon has been invited to participate in this Southwestern tournament.
THE TOURNAMENT: The tournament was named for former A&M standout Monica Welsch, who died in an automobile accident in 1992. Welsch, a four-year letter-winner from 1978-1982, still shares the school record for low round with a 68 and was a two-time TAIAW all-state selecion. Last year, Northwestern's Emily Gilley captured the individual crown, while Missouri caputrued teh team title for the second consectutive year.
THE FIELD: Oregon will be one of 17 teams competing in the 8th annual tournament, including Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, Kansas, Knsas State, McLennan CC, Missouri, No. 11 Northwestern, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 25 Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, SMU, Texas Tech, UTEP and Wichita State.
