Men's Tennis Rolls Against Portland
March 3, 2001
EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon men's tennis team rebounded from last week's 6-1 loss to Washington by defeating the University of Portland, 6-1, on Saturday at the Student Tennis Center. With the win, the Ducks even their record at 5-5 (0-3 Pac-10).
Oregon made a fast start, capturing two of its three doubles matches. Buck Mink and Jason Menke, playing at the No. 2 spot, earned their fourth consecutive victory, an 8-1 win over the Portland tandem of Jeff Nunnenkamp and Quinn Borchard.
The Ducks won all but one of their singles matches. Oded Teig, playing at the No. 1 spot, notched a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Peter Malacek, while Mink handled Nunnenkamp in a short 6-1, 6-2 match.
'This was a good win for us,' said head coach Chris Russell. 'Portland is a good team. Our guys came out ready to play, and I am pleased with their effort.'
Oregon will meet Santa Clara on Sunday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene.
