Softball returns to form, sweeps double-header with Colorado State
March 3, 2001
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The No. 14 ranked Oregon State softball squad got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon with 9-0 and 8-0 wins against Colorado State University in the second day of the CSUN/UCLA Tournament.
Junior Crystal Draper allowed just three hits in five innings of work as Oregon State scored all nine of its runs in the first inning to cruise to victory against Colorado State in the opening game of the double-header.
Shawna Feldt, Steph Adams and Jessica King all doubled in the game as Feldt finished 3-for-4 on the afternoon and King went 1-for-3 with three RBI. Catcher Shelly Prochaska hit 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.
'The entire team showed up focused today,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'Offensively and defensively Shawna Feldt really led the way but we had good offensive production from the entire line-up in both games.'
Freshman Monica Hoffman struck out seven and pitched a one-hitter in the second game of the day against the Rams.
OSU's offense continued to click as four Beavers recorded multiple hits in the 5-inning game.
Shawna Feldt blasted a three-run homer, her first of the year, and finished batting 2-for-3. Clare Burnum was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and stolen base while junior Michelle Chariton finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and run scored. Jessica King and Michelle Notaro also got in on the action. King hit 1-for-2 and scored two runs while Notaro finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
'Crystal threw some really good pitches, never allowing them to get any going offensively and Monica threw a great game with some of her best pitches this season,' commented Walker.
With the victories, Oregon State improves to 17-6-1 on the season.
'I'm very excited about how we came back today after two disappointing losses yesterday,' said Walker.
Oregon State concludes tournament play Sunday with a double-header against South Florida. Game-one is scheduled for 9 a.m.
