Women's tennis defeats ninth-ranked Pepperdine 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The top-ranked Stanford University women's tennis team improved to 13-0 on the season with a convincing 6-1 home win over ninth-ranked Pepperdine (5-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, including three against nationally ranked opponents. In those five matches, Stanford dropped a total of only 17 gamesAt No. 1 singles, top-ranked Laura Granville (Chicago, IL/The Latin School) improved to 26-1 overall and 11-1 in duals with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 win over 20th-ranked Ipek Senoglu. The Cardinal also received an impressive win at No. 2 singles from seventh-ranked Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton Prep), who knocked off 62nd-ranked Paola Palencia 6-2, 6-0.

Pepperdine opened the match by capturing the doubles point. In the No. 1 match, the Waves' team of fourth-ranked Palencia and Senoglu upset top-ranked Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge HS) and Kalvaria 8-5.

Stanford continues this four-match homestand next weekend when it hosts #23 Arizona on Friday, March 9th at 1:30 p.m. and #8 Arizona State on Saturday, March 10th at noon.
