Ali Ansari And Scotty Scott Advance To Semifinals Of 112th Pacific Coast Doubles Championships

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Stanford seniors Ali Ansari (Houston, TX/Second Baptist HS) and Scotty Scott (Belvedere, CA/Pinewood School) extended their winning streak to 11 matches with a pair of straight set victories at the 112th Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Saturday.
Ansari and Scott have now advanced to the semifinals of the 64-team field, and will meet UCLA's Marcin Matkowski and Travis Rettenmaier on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. The finals will then be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Fifth-seeded Ansari and Scott, who are currently the 18th-ranked Division I doubles according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, opened the day with a 7-6, 6-0 third round victory over Patrick Brown and Trevor Spracklin of William & Mary. The duo then pulled an upset over second-seeded and seventh-ranked Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to improve to 16-4 on the season.
Also on Saturday, Stanford's fourth-seeded and fourth-ranked team of sophomores Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) and David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep) was eliminated in the third round. Sixth-seeded Mike Brown of Del Mar, California and Gene Carswell of La Jolla, California defeated the Cardinal duo 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
