Ducks Men's Tennis Rides Santa Clara Broncos, 6-1

March 4, 2001

EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon men's tennis team swept the weekend with another 6-1 victory, this time over Santa Clara. With this win, the Ducks up their record to 7-6 for the season.

In doubles action, the Ducks came out strong taking all three matches. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Buck Mink and sophomore Jason Menke captured their fifth straight doubles win against SCU's Eric Chen and Matt Cox, 8-3. At No.3 and No. 5 singles, Mink defeated Victory Camargo 6-1, 6-4 while Menke took his match versus Frederic Mattioli, 6-3, 6-4.

'Buck [Mink] has been on fire the last few weeks,' said Oregon head coach Chris Russell. 'He is one of the guys on the team who plays solidly-we know what he's gonna do on the court.'

Another singles standout, freshman Martin Pawlowski fought through injuries for the win at No. 2 singles against the Bronco's Matt Cox, 6-4, 7-6.

'Martin was a big factor all weekend,' said Russell. 'Not having him fully healthy and battling through his matches was phenomenal for us.'

At No. 4 singles, the Ducks' lone senior, David Becker, defeated SCU's Michael Duong in the only three set match of the afternoon, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Up next, Oregon will battle Portland State at noon Saturday, March 10 at the Student Tennis Center.
