Softball Splits With South Florida
March 4, 2001
LOS ANGELES - Oregon State's softball team split a pair of games, 2-3 and 6-0, against South Florida to conclude the CSUN/UCLA Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
'Crystal (Draper) was off her game,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'We got down in a hole right away. Monica (Hoffman) did a good job in relief, we just didn't take advantage of runners that we had on late in the game. Offensively we were flat and not as aggressive as Saturday.'
The No. 14 ranked Beavers recovered in the second game, blasting 12 hits and Hoffman recorded a complete game shutout to improve her overall record to 5-3.
'Monica pitched well, she limited the opposition to only a few offensive threats,' said Walker.
Shelly Prochaska's RBI single in the third inning scored Shawna Feldt in what proved to be the game's winning run. Prochaska, a sophomore, finished hitting 3-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI while Shawna Feldt was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored.
Nine OSU players had at least one-hit in the contest.
'Everybody on the roster that had an at-bat got a hit today,' commented Walker. 'We were very balanced. We were a lot more aggressive and offensively we saw a lot better production.'
Oregon State continues its tournament travels next weekend with six games at the Fresno State Tournament. OSU will face Colorado State for the second week in a row with a 9 a.m. contest Friday.
