March 5, 2001
TEMPE, Ariz. - The eighth-ranked Arizona State (9-1, 3-1) women's tennis team was recently listed by Sports Illustrated for Women magazine as one of the top collegiate tennis squads in the nation. In its Spring College Preview, the magazine ranks ASU No. 3 behind No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Duke.
This season, the Devils are off to a quick start, having compiled a 52-8 (.866) record in dual play. ASU is currently undefeated at home (7-0), and has defeated each and every opponent at home by a 7-0 score. The Devils are on an eight-outing winning streak, and will face their true test in the next couple weeks as Pac-10 action picks up.
In singles action, the Devils are led by sophomores No. 35 Adria Engel (11-5) and No. 45 Megan Yeats (17-4). Freshman Cindy Sureephong (13-2) has shown consistency on the No. 6 court and remains undefeated in dual play (9-0).
Ten of the Devils' next twelve matches will be against top-25 teams, beginning against No. 1 Stanford and No. 10 California this weekend on the west coast.
