Ellis to Step Down as Head Coach of U.S. Under-21s
March 6, 2001
Los Angeles --UCLA head women's soccer coach Jillian Ellis announced today that she has decided to step down from her position as head coach of the Under-21 U.S. National Team.
Ellis, who is in her third year with the Under-21s and second as head coach, has decided to step down due to an illness in her family. She will remain on staff with the U.S. team until a replacement has been hired.
'For personal reasons, the foremost being my mom's battle with cancer, I am at a point where I need to prioritize my time,' said Ellis. 'Working with the Under-21 National Team has been nothing less than amazing, and for that opportunity I am eternally grateful.'
Last year, Ellis guided the U.S. Under-21s to the 2000 Nordic Cup title in Weismain, Germany. The Nordic Cup is widely considered the unofficial 'World Cup' of Under-21 soccer.
