March 6, 2001
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford sophomore right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (Ashland, OR) has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career. The Pac-10 award was 55th time a Stanford pitcher has been selected. For Guthrie, it was his second big honor of the season. He also was named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week on February 13.
Guthrie struck out a career-high 10 batters in Stanford's 3-1 victory over California on March 2. He allowed just four hits and an unearned runs in 8.0 innings.
Guthrie is now 4-0 on the season with a 1.15 ERA and has won four consecutive starts.
Stanford is ranked #10 in the nation and has won 12 of its last 14 games. Guthrie is scheduled to start Friday night's opening game against USC's highly touted Mark Prior (4-0, 1.82) in the first game of a highly-anticipated three-game non-conference series versus the Trojans at Sunken Diamond this Friday-Sunday, March 9-11 (6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm).
