Women's Golf Finishes Strong At Spartan Invitational

SALINAS, Calif. - - The Oregon State women's golf squad fired its second-lowest round of the year on Wednesday in the final round of the San Jose State Spartan Invitational. OSU finished 12th after shooting a 301 Wednesday, with a total of 939 for the tournament.

Every Oregon State golfer recorded her lowest round of the week Wednesday on the soggy par 72 Corral de Tierra Country Club, as Bridget Bieth led the way with a 74, helping the Beavers move up from 13th.

Bieth, Stacie Ferguson, and Carina Olsson all finished tied for 44th after shooting 232 over 54 holes. Ferguson carded a 75 Wednesday, while Olsson shot 77.

OSU's 301 marked its lowest round since the its first tournament of the season when it hosted the OSU Shanico Invitational in September and the Beavers shot a 298.

Sophomore transfer Ashlei Pendleton brought her score down to a 75 in the final round after slipping to a 83 Tuesday. Pendleton opened with the low round for the Beavers on Monday, as she fired a 77 in only her second collegiate tournament, in which she finished 55th with a score of 235. Pendleton played in one event as a freshman last year at Texas Christian.

Freshman Melanie Furuta, coming off a redshirt season last year, shot a 77 to finish tied for 70th at 245.

In the team competition, New Mexico State earned a one-shot win over Pepperdine, as the Roadrunners shot 869. Pepperdine used a 283 to close the gap to one on Wednesday, while NMSU shot a 291.

Washington's Kelli Kamimura captured medalist honors with a 209, including a round of 66 Wednesday.

OSU is back in action Monday and Tuesday, as they play in the UCLA Pioneer Bruin Classic.
