No. 5 Softball Wins Speedline Invitational

The No. 5 Stanford softball team posted 1-0 wins over both Wisconsin and Texas Tech today to take top honors at the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Florida. Junior Jessica Mendoza was named tournament MVP while Sarah Beeson and Dana Sorensen were named to the all-tournament squad.
In the semifinal game this morning against Wisconsin, the Cardinal and Badgers were both scoreless after seven innings of play. Sarah Beeson hit a single in the eighth inning, driving in Jessica Mendoza for the winning run. Dana Sorensen picked up her 14th win of the season.
In the championship game against Texas Tech, the score was tied heading into the bottom of the sixth when Kira Ching doubled home Mendoza to give Stanford the 1-0 win. Maureen LeCocq notched her 10th win on the year.
Stanford is now 28-2-1 on the year and will take a week and a half off for finals before returning to the field.
