CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State first baseman Andy Jarvis was named Monday as one of Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week in college baseball. Jarvis (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) was one of four players - and the only non-pitcher - selected for the honor by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Jarvis, a sophomore from Renton, Wash. (Liberty HS), batted .478 (11-for-23) with five home runs, two doubles, 13 runs batted in and eight runs scored in five games against Washington and Washington State. He tied an OSU school record with three homers against Washington State on Sunday.
Jarvis currently leads OSU (11-9 overall, 0-0 Pacific-10) with eight homers and 31 runs batted in and is batting .330. Earlier this season, he homered twice in one inning against Cal-Riverside.
The Beavers begin an eight-game homestand Tuesday, meeting Gonzaga (7-7, 2-1 West Coast) at 2:30 p.m., and the series concludes Wednesday with a 1 p.m. game. Oregon State hosts Minnesota (9-7, 0-0 Big Ten) in a three-game series this weekend with games Friday at 2 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.
