March 13, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Days after she set a school record in the all-around, Arizona State junior Laura Moon was named the Pacific-10 Conference's Gymnast of the Week for March 5-12, Tuesday.

Led by the second perfect-10 of her career on the uneven bars, Moon competed to a 39.6 in the all-around to lead then-No. 7 ASU to the ninth-best meet total in school history and a 196.15-194.25 victory over Auburn, March 9.

Moon's all-around total surpassed the previous ASU best of 39.575 established by Meagan Wright in 1997, while her 10.0 on bars was the 15th perfect score in ASU history, third ever on bars.

This is the second time this season Moon has been named the Pac-10's Gymnast of the Week. Moon also won for the week of Feb. 21-26, after she scored the first 10.0 of her career to lead ASU to a trio of victories at the UNO's Classic Feb. 23.

Moon, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., who spent her first two collegiate years at the University of Maryland, is putting together one of the finest seasons in Sun Devil history.Currently ranked fourth in the nation on bars, 18th on balance beam and 14th in the all-around, Moon is only the ninth ASU gymnast to ever record a perfect-10, and one of two to accomplish the feat twice in one season.

Now ranked eighth in the country, ASU's women's gymnastics team is set to wrap up the regular season at home against No. 7 Nebraska, No. 12 Iowa and unranked Kentucky Friday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena.
