Stanford Women Are No. 1 While Cardinal Men Are No. 2 In Latest WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford (15-0) has held the top spot in the women's rankings all seven weeks of the 2001 season and remains atop the rankings in the latest WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings administered and released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Stanford men held the No. 2 spot in this week's polls. UCLA (11-0) is No. 1 in the men's Division I top 25 for the fourth straight week.

Next week the rankings will switch from polls, voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committees, to a ranking based on the ITA's point-per-match computer formula.

The Stanford women received all seven first-place votes from the ITA National Ranking Committee for 525 points. Following Stanford in the top ten this week are: Georgia (9-1), Duke (8-1), Florida (6-0), Texas (8-1), Vanderbilt (13-1), Notre Dame (11-2), (tie) California (6-2) and Northwestern (11-2), and Arizona State (9-3).

Rounding out the women's top 25 are: South Alabama, Southern California, Pepperdine, Baylor, Tennessee, North Carolina, Washington, William & Mary, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Arizona, Illinois, Texas A&M and LSU. LSU is the lone newcomer to the top 25 this week.

The UCLA men picked up Pac-10 wins over Southern California, Arizona and Arizona State last week after being idle for two weeks. Rounding out the top ten are: Stanford (9-1), Duke (7-1), Texas A&M (11-2), TCU (9-2), Washington (12-4), Georgia (9-1), SMU (9-0), Tennessee (8-2) and Pepperdine (9-3). Fourth-ranked Texas A&M moves to its highest ranking this season after topping then No. 3 TCU last week.

The next 15 spots in the men's poll are: Texas, Illinois, Virginia Commonwealth, South Alabama, Mississippi State, LSU, Mississippi, Auburn, Southern California, Alabama, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Miami (Fla.) and Baylor. Auburn, Notre Dame and Ohio State are new to the top 25 this week.
