No. 8 Cal Tennis Sweeps Weekend Competition

BERKELEY, CA - The No. 8-ranked women's tennis team improved to 10-2 (4-2 Pac-10) after downing No. 5-ranked Texas on Friday, 5-2, then duplicating their performance against the University of South Alabama Jaguars, March 18, 5-2. Cal increases the win streak to six with the victory.

Cal was led in singles by Anita Kurimay, who recovered from a straight set loss on Friday, and defeated Silvia Sosnarova, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot for the Bears. Christina Fusano, who has been on fire lately, going 9-1 at the No. 2 spot for Cal, defeated Iva Puflerova, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Freshman Jieun Jacobs, who faltered at No. 4 on Friday to Texas, bounced back with a strong, 6-2, 6-3 victory at the spot by defeating South Alabama's Nienke Scheltens.

Cal won at all three spots in doubles, grabbing the point for the Bears. Anita Kurimay and Raquel Kops-Jones, came back after an 8-6 loss on Friday, defeating the tandem of Sosnarova and Viktoria Stoklasova, 8-6, at No. 1.
