Arvidson In The Hunt At Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. - - Anthony Arvidson continued his stellar senior season on Monday, as he shot a score of 2-under par 70 in the second round of the Duck Invitational to take a 146 into Tuesday's final round at the par-72, 6,854-yard Eugene Country Club.

Arividson, who has a string of nine consecutive top-25 finishes, is tied for 12th, and the Beavers are tied with Hawaii for 11th with a score of 604. OSU opened the day by shooting a 309, but moved up from 13th with a second-round 295, which was one of the lower afternoon scores.

Michael Jurgensen, a sophomore transfer from Copenhagen, Denmark, had a 75-75--150 to tie for 40th heading into Tuesday's final round, while Daren Grieg carded an even-par 72 in the second round after an 82 in the morning.

Dave Yarnes, who claimed medalist honors at the Cleveland Golf Classic two weeks ago, is two shots behind Grieg at 156, and is tied for 67th. David Williams carded a 159.

OSU's second team is in 14th, two shots behind Washington State at 608. Todd Deacon, who is playing in just his second tournament this year, led the way for the second squad, coming in at 147 after a 72 in the afternoon to forge a tie for 21st.

Chance Holmes fired a 154, while Sean Deacon and James Salt each recorded a 155. David Stypula shot 158, and Cameron MacKenzie - playing individually - shot 155 as well.

San Diego State and Oregon are fighting it out for the lead, as SDSU has a one-stroke advantage after shooting 576. The Aztecs, who put three golfers in the top-10, totaled the lowest round of the day when they came in at 283 after the second round.

Oregon's Aaron Byers blistered the E.C.C. for a 66 in the first round, then shot even-par to keep a one-stroke advantage over UC-Santa Barbara's Jeff Woods at 138.
