March 26, 2001
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE catcher Traci Feldt has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while CALIFORNIA pitcher Jocelyn Forest was named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 19 - Mar. 25, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Feldt, a junior from Vancouver, Wash., helped lead Oregon State to its first tournament championship of the season at the New Mexico State Tournament. Feldt hit .471 in OSU's six games, going 8-for-17. She scored four runs and had a team-high eight RBI to go along with a .706 slugging percentage. One of the highlights over the weekend consisted of Feldt belting her first career home run while adding four RBI in a win over Texas-San Antonio on Mar. 23. For her efforts, she went on to be named to the New Mexico State All-Tournament squad.
Forest, a junior from Santa Maria, Calif., went a combined 5-0 on the weekend in helping lead California to a Georgia Tech Buzz Classic Title. Forest allowed only four earned runs in 32.0 innings of work with 49 strikeouts and just three walks during the tournament. In the championship game against Harvard on Mar. 25, she threw the first perfect game of her career to cap off a day in which she won all three games Cal played. Forest is now 22-1 on the season with a 0.35 ERA in 161.1 innings and a Conference-leading 248 stikeouts.
It is the first weekly honor for Feldt, Oregon State's 15th overall. Forest garners the second award of her career giving California 47 honors all-time.
