Top-Ranked UCLA Hosts Cal Poly Slo, USC This Week

This Week ... Bruins Face Cal Poly SLO, USC
After taking the week off for finals, the top-ranked UCLA men's tennis team will host Cal Poly SLO on Wednesday (Mar. 28) and cross-town rival USC on Friday (Mar. 30). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm at the LA Tennis Center.
Bruins In ITA National Rankings...
The Bruins continued to be the top-ranked team in the nation in the latest ITA rankings released on Mar. 21. UCLA received 82.8 points based on the ITA point-per-match computer formula which is based on a points-per-match ranking system that is implemented in mid-March. Texas Christian is second with 75 points, followed by Duke (70.94), Texas A&M (70.56), and Georgia (62.31) to round out the top five.
In individual rankings released on March 23rd, Jean-Julien Rojer moved up several places and is now ranked No. 6 in singles. Other Bruins ranked nationally include: Tobias Clemens, No. 46, Jean-Noel Grinda No. 67, and Erfan Djahangiri, No. 73.
In doubles, the tandem of Grinda and Rojer remain the top-ranked UCLA team at No. 9. The super hot team of Marcin Matkowski and Travis Rettenmaier is ranked No. 24, while the tandem of Clemens and Lassi Ketola is No. 39.
UCLA Injury Report...
Freshman Tobias Clemens is expected to make his return to the starting lineup this week. Clemens has been out of action and recovering from an injury he sustained earlier this season against USC.
A Quick Glance At This Week's Opponents...
Cal Poly SLO
Wednesday's match will be the 10th time the squads have squared off and the first this season with UCLA leading with a 9-0 all-time record. The Mustangs are led by Brandon Fallon and Brian Kent who play at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Fallon teams with Jon Cappello at No. 1 in doubles.
Friday's meeting with the Trojans will be the second this season and 82nd match since 1967, as the Bruins defeated the Trojans earlier this season, 5-2 on Feb. 28 at the Marks Tennis Stadium on the USC campus. The Bruins lead the all-time series 52-29. The Trojans, ranked 22nd in the latest ITA pools, are led by Andrew Park and Ryan Moore, who are ranked 22nd and 18th, respectively. The tandem of Moore and Rainey is ranked 11th in doubles. The Trojans will also rely on the services of Nick Rainey who is ranked 98th.
After the matches against Cal Poly SLO and `SC, the Bruins will continue their homestand at LATC and face Stanford on Friday (Apr. 6) and California the following day (Apr. 7). Friday's match will begin at 1:30, while Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at noon.
