Baseball Routs San Diego State, 16-7
LOS ANGELES -- Freshman Jon Brewster went 3-for-4 with three RBI while senior Josh Persell added a three-run homer Wednesday and the No. 12 USC Trojans defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 16-7, in non-conference action at Dedeaux Field.
Mark Prior (7-1) struck out six in five innings of work for the Trojans (20-11). Prior gave up an unearned run in the first and an earned run in the fourth, his first in 21 2/3 innings. The Trojans took the lead for good against the Aztecs (16-12) in the third, thanks to the homer to left by Persell. Every batter in USC's starting lineup recorded at least one hit.
The Trojans tied a season-high with 16 hits and have produced at least 10 or more hits in their last six games.
The Trojans will have the weekend off before facing the Aztecs again in San Diego on Tuesday (April 3) at 6 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. USC will then host Arizona State in Pac-10 action for a three-game series, beginning on Friday (April 6) at 6 p.m. Games will be broadcast live on the Internet at www.usctrojans.com.
