Women's Tennis Remains No. 1 While Men Jump To No. 6 In Latest WingspanBank.Com Collegiate Tennis Rankings

March 28, 2001

PRINCETON, New Jersey - The Stanford women remained the No. 1 team while the men jumped from No.7 to No. 6 in the latest WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings administered and released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). UCLA (14-0) is No. 1 in the men's Division I top 25 for the sixth straight week. Stanford has held the top spot in the women's rankings all nine weeks of the 2001 season.

This is the second week where the rankings are determined by the ITA's point-per-match computer formula. The first eight rankings this season were determined by a poll due to the fact there are not enough results early in the season to administer a computer ranking.

Stanford (15-0) remains at No. 1 with an 83.80 average, 12.04 ahead of second-ranked Duke (11-1). Rounding out the top 10 are (in order): Georgia (12-1), Tennessee, Florida (13-0), Vanderbilt (15-1), Notre Dame (14-3), Texas (13-2), Texas A&M and Fresno State.

The Cardinal women are on the road this week for non-conference matches against UNLV and BYU while the men host BYU today at 11:00 a.m. and Utah on April 4, at 1:30 p.m.

There is little change in the men's top 10 this week as the top five spots remain the same and Pepperdine is the lone newcomer at No. 7. Top-ranked UCLA leads the way with a 80.20 average, 8.08 ahead of second-ranked TCU (11-2). Rounding out the top 10 are: Duke (11-3), Texas A&M (14-2), Georgia (14-1), Stanford (9-1), Pepperdine, (tie) SMU (10-1) and Washington (14-4) and Notre Dame (13-2).
