Troy Secures U.S. Spring National Title in 800-Meter Free Relay

USC's 800-meter freestyle relay team of sophomore Erik Vendt, sophomore Jeff Lee, junior Mark Warkentin and freshman Klete Keller won a national title in the event on Friday night to highlight the Trojans' efforts at the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals in Austin, Texas.
Vendt, Lee, Warkentin and Keller won the event in 7:28.47, well ahead of second-place Auburn (7:32.60).
It was also a good night for Trojan alum Lindsay Benko. Benko won a national championship in the 200m freestyle, winning in 1:59.81. The best current Trojan effort in the event was sophomore Jennifer Parmenter, who took 15th in 2:03.90.
Freshman Jana Krohn reached the finals of the 200m fly, taking eighth in 2:15.34. Lee reached the consolation finals of the 200m fly and was 15th in 2:03.91 and sophomore Michala Kwasny was 15th in the women's 200m fly (2:17.20). Senior Corrie Murphy swam in the consols of the 200m IM and was 11th (2:19.12).
The meet continues through Sunday (April 1).
