April 2, 2001
Redwood Shores, Calif. - The Cardinal posted their first victories of the Spring racing season with taking five wins against Sacramento State and Santa Clara. Racing was held in flat conditions and clear skies with temperatures reaching 80 degrees.
The Stanford Varsity began the day, competing against a tough Sacramento State Varsity. The Cardinal led during the whole race to capture its first victory. 'We feel that the successful racing today will help our efforts later in the year,' noted Varsity 6 man Chris Jones.
Against Santa Clara, the Cardinal established rhythm and length early in the race to secure the victory. 'Both races provided the crews an opportunity to race our home course,' noted Head Coach Craig Amerkhanian. 'The dual racing from this weekend will springboard thegroup into preparation for the San Diego Crew Classic.'
Stanford's Freshmen/Novice crew also posted a sweep for Stanford in its first races of the year.
