April 6, 2001
TEMPE, Ariz. --- Washington State senior Jennifer Dodd provided the lone bright spot for the Cougars in the first round of the Arizona State/Ping Invitational, being played on the par 72 Karsten Golf Course.
Dodd carded a 77 and finished the first day of play tied for 35th with six other players. The Portland, Ore., native was the only Cougar to shoot under 80. Washington State will be looking for a boost on Saturday from team scoring average leader Tasha Browner, who shot an 84 and is tied for 79th.
Texas Christian ended the first round with a two-shot advantage over California at the top of the team leader board. Tulsa, UCLA, and host Arizona State are tied at 302 for third.
Arizona's Lorena Ochoa and Arizona State's Molly Cooper both shot 71s on Friday and are tied for first individually. Ochoa is looking to become the second-straight Wildcat to win the ASU/Ping Invitational. All-American Jenna Daniels won the event last year.
The second round will continue on Saturday at 8 a.m., with the third and final round coming on Sunday.
