Arizona State Defeats Baseball, 11-1, In Final Game Of Series

LOS ANGELES -- Brooks Conrad went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI while Mike Lopez went 2-for-5 with two doubles Sunday and three RBI and the No. 10 Arizona State Sun Devils defeated the No. 12 USC Trojans, 11-1, in Pac-10 Conference action at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans won the series against the Sun Devils, two games to one.
The Sun Devils (22-11-1, 5-7) scored their first five runs with two outs. ASU scored twice in the first on a two-RBI double by Lopez and did not look back as starter Mike Esposito (2-2) pitched effectively. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on five hits. Andy Torres pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball to record his first save of the season.
ASU scored three runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles by Chris Duffy and Casey Myers after Rod Allen scored the first run in the inning from third on a balk call against USC starter Anthony Reyes (1-2).
The Trojans (23-12, 6-3) had an opportunity in the second with the bases loaded and no outs, but could only muster their lone run as Abel Montanez grounded into a 1-2-3 double play and Brian Barre grounded out to end the threat.
USC will be back in action on Tuesday (April 10) with a 5 p.m. non-conference game against UC Santa Barbara at Dedeaux Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Internet at www.usctrojans.com.
